Commercial : Devonport Airport Upgrade

Airport Rd, Devonport TAS 7307

The $3 million construction comprised a major upgrade of the terminal facilities including refurbishment of the existing structure and major extensions.  Included in the project was a baggage screening area, new check-in area, new amenities, security screening and new arrivals area. Construction took place in an operational airport and all activities had to be managed around passengers, airport staff and flight schedules.

Building elements included concrete slabs, steel wall and roof framing and Exotec panel as cladding externally. The development included Rapid roller doors to Departure and Arrivals baggage areas as well as seven auto sliding doors.

Time frames to complete individual areas were critical. The project had a very tight schedule with the new security screening area required to be operational 1st July to meet funding requirements. Communications were continually required with specialist contractors and sub-contractors to ensure the project would meet the deadlines. Many times throughout the project, trades were required to work simultaneously in congested areas. At times, work had to cease to allow arriving passengers access to the airport.

The project required exceptional teamwork, was completed on time and exhibited outstanding workmanship throughout - a testament to all involved.

This project received the Master Builders Association (MBA) of Tasmania Renovations over $1m award.
